Climate House Presents
-
Against the backdrop of an increasingly climate altered world, the study of ecology has expanded beyond the natural sciences, and it is recognised that there are many ecologies - social, political and environmental. These ecologies are becoming concerns for, and explored by, artistic practice.
Inspired by Climate House’s manifesto for the arts, ‘By Leaves We Survive’, a new series of programming will explore how socially and culturally engaged artistic practice investigate and reveal these ecologies, uncovering pathways to a regenerative climate.
Themes
Recovered Rituals
Knowledge, rituals and stories about how to care for our environments are found in every culture and society around the world. This knowledge offers a valuable resource that can provide nuanced approaches to living through our climate emergency - but much has been lost due to threats to intergenerational sharing. In this theme, a diversity of voices will explore how recovering, reconnecting and re-contextualising this ancestral knowledge can build climate resilience.
More-than-human
Revealing the unseen and reorienting our relationship with nature and ecology can bring to life a more-than-human view of the world. It leads us to question how we understand our interconnected world, and how this understanding shapes our ability to articulate and address the challenges of the climate crisis. This theme explores what new forms of knowledge arise when the world is considered through a multi-species lens.
Climate Care
Building on the previous two themes, Climate Care takes a more practical look at how we can enact a new ethics of care for the climate - from how we meaningfully engage, and listen, to diverse communities to innovative local practices for our shared global problem.
