Rhododendrons: Riddle, Obsession, Threat

9 April to 5 June, 2022

Coinciding with the peak flowering period of the RBGE’s unique collection of rhododendrons, Inverleith House emerges from hibernation on 9 April to reveal our significant history of collecting, researching, and cultivating this widely discussed genus.
Work by contemporary artists Alison Turnbull, Simon Starling, and Yan Wang Preston will be presented alongside historical botanical illustration, photography, and objects from RBGE’s Archive. And newly commissioned work, Rhododatum: a collaboration between artists Stefanie Posavec and Ray Interactive, with RBGE Biodiversity Conservation Network Manager, Alan Elliott will bring to life RBGE’s expansive Rhododendron data sets and consider contemporary concerns such as the IUCN’s Red List of Threatened Species and how that relates to our collections. Botanical installations by Cynthia Fan and Hazel France
