In 1985 Andy Warhol said that he would like to paint the Absolut bottle, no one could have predicted that this would be the foundation of an extraordinary collection of contemporary works of art from all over the world. Since then, art has become an important medium to express the spirit of Absolut Vodka.
Warhol was the first artist to demonstrate his own interpretation of Absolut Vodka, and since "Absolut Warhol", there have been works in every conceivable form of visual art, from over 600 artists from around the globe.
For the first time in Scotland, Absolut Vodka presented World-famous commissioned work by the following artists from its International Art Collection: Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Ed Ruscha, Peter Blake, Helene Delprat, Graham Gussin and Scotland's own Douglas Gordon.
Supporting innovation, Absolut Vodka also commissioned three Scottish artists to create new works on the Absolut theme - Catriona Grant, Gary Rough and David Shrigley. They were selected because of their ability to reflect contemporary life in Scotland in a way which is both witty and accessible.
Catriona Grant was born in Fife, Scotland. She studied Fine Art Photography at Glasgow School of Art in the 1980's and gained her Masters in Electronic Imaging at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Dundee.Biography
Born in Glasgow in 1972, Gary Rough studied for a BA and MFA at Glasgow School of Art between 1991 and 1998. A former member of Glasgow art group Filthy Swan, Rough now lives and works in New York.
David Shrigley is a Glasgow-based artist. Born in Macclesfield he grew up in Oadby, Leicestershire, England. He attended City of Leicester Polytechnic's Art and Design course in 1987-1988, and subsequently studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1988-1991.
