Dona Tonka

I am an architect and am currently working in interior design.

I've been passionate about painting since I was a child and a few years ago I decided to fully embrace it. I've always been interested in botany, so it was easy to find inspiration in nature. The Diploma in Botanical Illustration was a way to structure the process of documenting and painting plants. I am interested in Romanian wild flora, in exotic and toxic plants and insects.

Title of the Project:

Wild field flowers

About the Project:

For this project, I chose plants that are still very common in the south of Romania. These are the flowers I used to pick for my mother every summer since I was little. Unfortunately, I have noticed that with introducing more potent herbicides in agriculture, these plants have lost a lot of their habitat. As I consider diversity is very important in nature, I aimed to document these five plants that represent an immense group of weeds.  Maybe they are not important taken one by one, but taken together they provide a rich ecosystem for small animals and insects, hay for larger animals and beauty for humans.
