Ingrid Arthur
Born 1960
Ingrid Arthur was born in Shetland, living there until she left for the mainland at the age of sixteen to study at ECA. She graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) in Tapestry Weaving in 1981, completing a post graduate diploma the following year. Whilst raising a family and working in the family business, artwork took a back seat, however, Ingrid undertook several commissions and exhibitions. Her interest in and love of Botanical Illustration grew over the years and in 2019 she enrolled with RBGE.
Title of the Project:
A Shetland Garden
About the Project:
My mother was a keen gardener in the Shetland Isles and although she didn’t have much spare time to spend in the garden, it was her passion. Being limited to hardy, tough plants that bore the harshest of Shetland weather didn’t dampen her enthusiasm and I wanted to honour this by painting five plants that she grew for my final year of the Diploma. These five plants are very evocative and bring to mind long, light summer nights and the scents of childhood.
