Christine Bissell

I live in the Black Forest in Southern Germany - a beautiful region with fascinating and inspiring nature. I give guided walks on the wild herbs found here and this was the impulse to start painting the local flora. I hope to continue raising awareness of the beauty of the plant world through my paintings.

Title of the Project:

Liliaceae – a family gathering

About the Project:

The plant world is incredibly diverse. In this project, I present various genera of Liliaceae grown in my garden, showing how diverse even the members of one family can be. They have all adopted some form of underground storage to survive through the winter, so even the bulbs and rhizomes have a story to tell. As the plants reappear, from Erythronium in spring to Tricyrtis in late summer, they each bring colour and joy to the garden.
