Dr Michael Möller, Gesneriaceae Researcher
Molecular Systematist and Cytologist at RBGE. His main research interest focuses around the Gesneriaceae, especially those of the Old World. RBGE has a long history of research in this plant group. We apply state-of-the-art analytical methods to address a wide range of issues, covering taxonomy and phylogeny, biogeography, evolutionary development, and cytology.
Research Interests:
- use molecular data to establish generic and higher level classifications in Gesneriaceae;
- combine morphological, molecular and cytological data to delineate taxa;
- utilise molecular phylogenetic analyses to to reconstruct biogeographic histories;
- investigate chromosome and genome evolution in Gesneriaceae;
- link phylogeny and developmental studies to infer the evolution of key characters in Gesneriaceae;
- assemble high-quality genomes of Gesneriaceae with the aim to:
- isolate and characterise genes underlying the morphological diversity in Gesneriaceae.
